Paint Over - WOYWW 201

Happy Wednesday y'all! This is what's going on this cloudy, cool (come on rain) day in Central Texas. You might remember a couple of weeks ago I shared the beginning of a paint over project. Today I added a few touches and will show you the work in progress. As you can see....not much progress has been made on this creation. I have had some fabulous distractions though!
I'm thinking the scrubbed area of red on her head should develop into some type of turban or bird or flowers! What do you think?
Meanwhile back at the ranch...Fritz and Frieda have been having a grand old time riding around in the pasture looking at the wildlife, watching hawks and Mexican buzzards/eagles, and enjoying spring time in Texas. Everything is turning GREEN! YES!

Thank you for visiting my blog and while you are here, please feel free to view some of my previous posts.

Junkin' in Texas - WOYWW - Wednesday 200

Nothin' better than junkin' in Texas on a sunny spring day and finding lots of junky beads and broken jewelry to recycle or upcycle! Now that's what I call livin'!  Got to travel with some of my fellow junkers last Friday to Warrenton, Tx!  Our first stop was at County Line corner where our friend, Farita, always has trays of broken and junk jewelry for us to paw through.  We can fill a zip lock bag for $5!  And we did just that!  WOW!

So, my friends, that is what is on my work desk this murky, dreary, rainy Wednesday in Central Texas! (Although we certainly welcome the much needed rain, since the drought is about to kill us down here!)
O.K....so here is a peek at a portion of my work desk (April Fools...it's my computer desk...I'm still not brave enough to show you my REAL work desk.)

Lucious junk beads and broken jewelry!  YES!

My colorful stash of silk sari remnants to use  with my new junk beads in making my wrap bracelets! Can't wait to get started!

More cool stuff at Warrenton!
This booth in Warrenton called "Stash"  was so darling and decorated so uniquely.  The young couple was from Cleveland, Ohio!

Driving Ms. Blue Babuska - Blue Monday

It seems they took a drive on Sunday afternoon, Ms. Blue Babuska and the Asp.  She was suffering withdrawals from not having visited her favorite "thrifting" spot in several weeks.  So Asp agreed to drive her to the city where she collected many unique items which included single earrings, blue velvet trim, an exquisite blue Easter egg, a blue trinket box, and a blue sequined star.  She was so very happy to have found so many beautiful items to repurpose.  The car was full of treasures so Ms. Babuska was forced to ride in the front seat with Asp for the return trip to the country. He was so happy!
Later that day she sifted through her recent stash and began creating mixed media collages and jewelry.

Painting Over - WOYWW

Painting Over or Over Painting

My work desk is overflowing with  beads, thread, sari cloth and found objects from the past few weeks of creating for the fabulous show at Frills in Taylor last night.  Which, I might add, was a huge success!  So many of our friends, new and old, came out to peruse our goods and party with us.

Now my work desk is full of paper, gesso and gel medium.  I am implementing a technique I learned on line from the fabulous Sharon Tomlinson...click HERE to see her blog and all the great classes she offers.

I'm just getting started on this one so I will give you a sneak peek of the first two processes.
First you clip or tear images from magazines..mine should have overlapped more...oh well....then you glue them down on your substrate with gel medium.  Let this dry and then paint over with a diluted mix of water and gesso. You want to camouflage as much as possible because of copyright laws!!!

As you can see,,,this is a work in progress and you will have to stay tuned to see the finished product.
In the meantime,,,hop on over to see what others are doing around the world and what they have on their work desks HERE !

I'll be exhibiting the above mixed media card cases as well as my repurposed mint tin pendants and some of my mixed media art pieces. Two of my partners in crime will be joining me! (More to come)  In the meantime, czech out what others around the world have on their work desks by clicking HERE!

WOYWW 193 - Valentines and Vintage Handkerchiefs

What's on my work desk today?  Too much junk and stuff to show you because you might get scared!  But I will give you a peek of what I've been creating for the Little Darlings.  The past couple of days I've been going through my stash of hearts, glitter, glue, paper and doilies and came across these sweet vintage handkerchiefs.

Don't you just love this one that says "To My Dear Wife"?  Probably given as a Valentine or perhaps mailed from a far away place during WWII!  I can just feel the love!

FAT TUESDAY - MARDI GRAS ART

Happy Fat Tuesday everyone!  In keeping with a Mardi Gras theme, you will see I've been busy with my art piece titled "Basin Street"...in honor of one of my favorite jazz songs!   (We learned to play that piece when in high school band many years ago and oh what fun we had!)

I used a combination of colored pencils, collage elements, and acrylic paint.  The ruffle on the parasol is a crumbled up dress pattern!  Go out an have yourself some beignets or king cake today.Enjoy and let the good times roll!
